Emmerdale has been on TV screens since the 1970s with dozens of iconic characters living in the village over the years. There's been many different families on the show, but the Dingles have remained at the heart of Emmerdale since the soap's inception.
As the son of Zak and Nellie Dingle , Butch was an integral part of the Dingle family. Real name Francis Albert Dingle, he was introduced in 1994 before exiting in 2000. In 2000, tragedy struck when Butch was involved in a bus crash in the village, leaving him with serious injuries. Butch and Emily got married while he was still in hospital but he passed away shortly after. The character is buried next to his brother who died a few years earlier, with a tombstone that reads: "Dead but still Dingles."
