Emmerdale's Karen Blick was left in tears after bosses said her character would be going through a brutal sexual assault storyline.
The assault happens after the pair share an intimate moment when they go to visit their son’s grave and almost kiss before Lydia pulls away. The next day, Lydia hands in her resignation to Craig and when she tries to leave, he forces himself on her. “James [Hooton, who plays Sam] had no idea – he kept saying, ‘I know where this is going’ and then when Jane [Hudson, the show’s executive producer] said, ‘Then Craig rapes Lydia’, it was shocking. Both of us had tears in our eyes.”
Speaking to Digital Spy, Karen added: "Lydia's rape is one of the most important and sensitive stories I have been part of during my time in Emmerdale. The research, preparation and aftermath of this story has been challenging and eye-opening for me.
