Emmerdale star Kevin Mathurin opens up about his life away from the ITV soap with his DJ wife and their two kids and what's in store for the Dales vicar Charles Anderson
Emmerdale ’s vicar Charles Anderson is wracked with guilt over his dad’s death – and guilt is a feeling actor Kevin Mathurin knows only too well himself.
Proud dad Kevin, 50, who commutes from the family home in south London to Leeds where Emmerdale is filmed, confides, “I do feel guilty being away from the family, especially when the schedule is really busy and I am working five days in a week. It breaks my heart when I get a little voice message from my eight-year-old son, Harley, saying he misses me.
“But she also understands what it is like to have a job you love. She has a job she loves too. And thankfully if we are both away with our jobs, we’ve got the grandparents to help out.” “It turns Charles’ life into a complete and utter mess,” explains Kevin. “He is guilt-ridden and he has gone against everything that he believes in. He has let personal grudges affect him. The conflict for Charles is overwhelming.”
“Sadly, we lost our dog, Purdey, who was 13, to cancer earlier this year and Nikki and Harley are still devastated. It’s going to take a while before we can think about adopting another dog. Purdey was such a significant energy in our household that she will be hard to replace. When back home, Kevin loves spending time with Nikki and his children. He first met Nikki in 2003 when he was dancing to Kelis and Nikki was DJing at the Royal Albert Hall. They were reintroduced to each other at a Christmas party in 2012 by For Life actor, Nicholas Pinnock, and recognising one another, they hit it off immediately and romance blossomed. Kevin, who had his daughter with a previous partner, and Nikki then went on to have their son, Harley.
