A Connecticut state trooper was killed on Interstate 84 in Southington Thursday afternoon, according to state police.

The driver who hit Trooper Pelletier fled the scene, state police said. The driver was taken into custody a short time later near Exit 39A. Police said they planned to release information about the driver at a later time.Sign up for NECN newsletters. The eastbound side of the highway remained closed Thursday evening. The westbound side opened around 7:30 p.m.
