The church was closed last year, as the community were already dealing with the loss of the local community centre.
The local Church of Scotland in Elibank Street closed in May 2023 - depriving local residents of a space to use. The church closure compounded problems with a lack of facilities in the area following the shut down of the local community centre during the pandemic.
She said the church space would be used to meet community needs and offer clubs for all ages from children to elderly people. So far Growing21 have helped set up the city’s first discounted food pantry, assisted with securing over £650,000 to redevelop a vacant school site and recently opened a community cafe.North East councillor Ruairi Kelly who has worked with community groups and helped secure funding for the projects is fully behind the latest venture.
It is understood that the General Trustees of the Church of Scotland will decide on the bids they have received for the building on Wednesday.
