Empty Blackburn tool shop set for 'striking' showroom transformation
A former tool hire shop in a suburban commercial centre is set to be revived as a ‘striking’ retail showroom.
Mr Abdullah promised that the result will be a ‘sleek’ two-storey retail/showroom unit on the corner of Whalley Banks and Dale Road which would create new jobs.A report recommending granting planning permission by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council planning officer Jamie Edwards says: “The host property was previously used as a tool hire shop, however has remained vacant for several years. The site falls within the designated Whalley Banks District Centre.
“The height of the building will be raised to follow the existing ridge height of adjacent tyre depot, thus ensuring it does not lead to an incongruous or isproportionate addition. A shallow dual pitch roof will be utilised which is is a visual improvement to the current flat roof. “Whilst it is accepted, blue brick would result in an alien material being introduced, a range of external materials are used on surrounding buildings. It will also have some resemblance to the darker brick on adjacent properties to the west, and thus is considered to be acceptable.
