Hinze, who represents city’s Old Encinitas region, says much has changed in her life since joining council in 2019
Encinitas City Councilmember Kellie Hinze, who represents the city’s downtown district, announced Wednesday that she will fill out her term, but not seek re-election in November. “My life has changed quite a lot since I assumed this role in 2019,” she said at the conclusion of that evening’s City Council meeting. Among other things, she’s gotten married, had a child, and is now almost six months pregnant with her second daughter, she said. She’s also handing elder care duties for her family.
She said she knew people with professional, good-paying jobs who have struggled to purchase anything in Encinitas. When she announced Wednesday that she would not seek re-election, Hinze said it had been “the gift of a lifetime” to serve on the council and felt privileged to have done so at such as young age. “It’s not lost on me what an amazing experience this has been,” she said.
