Grant Store experts advise homeowners to consider heat pumps and solar panels for substantial long-term savings and environmental benefits. Despite the initial cost, these upgrades can significantly reduce energy bills and carbon footprint. Government initiatives and simple energy-saving measures further enhance the appeal of these investments.

Energy specialists are encouraging households to consider an investment that could cut bills and potentially make you some money. Solar panel specialists at Grant Store are advising homeowners to look into the latest energy-efficient technologies. Despite the significant initial outlay, they say these upgrades offer substantial long-term savings and environmental advantages.

A spokesperson for Grant Store said: 'Upgrading to heat pumps or solar panels might feel like a big spend upfront, but when you think about the long-term savings and how much greener it makes your home, it's a smart move.' Air source heat pumps, which draw energy from the air to warm your home, are intended as replacements for gas boilers. They can reduce energy consumption by up to 75% and have double the lifespan. 'Pairing heat pumps with solar panels is a game-changer,' added the specialist. 'Solar panels can help power your heat pump, so you're saving even more on energy bills while reducing your carbon footprint.' The cost of heat pumps can vary, with air source systems installation ranging from £9,000 to £19,000 and ground source models going up to £34,000, reports Birmingham Live. Solar panel installations typically cost between £5,000 and £8,000, but the firm says that the long-term benefits justify the investments. Government initiatives such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which provides up to £7,500 towards the cost of heat pumps, and subsidies for solar panel installations, are designed to make the technology more accessible. 'Heat pumps and solar panels aren't just beneficial for the environment – they're great for your wallet,' stated the Grant Store employee. 'With the energy price cap currently standing at £1,738 a year for an average household, finding ways to reduce those costs is more crucial than ever.' Solar panels can produce up to 4,000 kWh of electricity each year for a typical home, potentially offsetting a significant portion of your electricity consumption. When paired with heat pumps, potential savings could rise to £300 or more per year. In addition, any surplus power generated can be sold back to the grid, possibly creating an opportunity to earn money. 'And it's not just about major upgrades,' the specialist said. 'Simple measures like draught-proofing windows and doors can save £80 a year, turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby can add another £45, and switching to a cheaper fixed-rate energy deal could save £140 annually. Every little bit counts.' In addition to investing in energy-efficient technology, homeowners can also benefit from support from suppliers. Energy UK, the trade body, reports that energy providers have committed over £500 million this winter to assist households struggling with their bills
