I'm a Celeb winner and professional footballer Jill Scott shares her wedding plans with fiancee Shelly Unitt after they 'lost momentum' and the sacrifices she's had to make
Speaking to Jill Scott is like catching up with an old friend – she even encourages OK! to pour ourselves a cup of tea and get comfy as she fills us in on her whirlwind few years.
Asked if she and her fiancée, Shelly Unitt, 38, are any further forward with their wedding arrangements, Jill lights up at the mention of her wife-to-be’s name – but then sighs and admits they simply “haven’t had the time”. “My life has been about football and pretty much nothing else,” says Jill, who was awarded an MBE for services to football in 2020. “At first it was about fitting football into my life, but then the more professional I became, life had to fit around football.
“My grandma’s house is my happy place and her saying she’s proud of me means more than anything – she’s the only validation I need,” she says. “When life gets hectic or a bit much, it’s the first place I want to go. I ring her most days to keep her updated on what’s going on.” “Having visibility of female footballers is vital for younger generations because of the impact it has,” she says. “It’s encouraging when dads come up to me and say, ‘Because of you, my daughter plays football’.”
“I don’t feel like a celebrity at all, I really don’t,” she says. “If I get invited to an event, I think to myself, ‘Why the hell have I been invited?’. To be honest, I’m faking my life half of the time. “I’m quite happy to hand it over now,” she laughs. “A lot of people refer to me as the Queen of the Jungle, but I did play football for 16 years before that!
