A 16-year-old Yorkshire schoolboy developed sepsis after grazing his knuckles during a hockey match, his family have said

“During the ski trip he complained that he had strained his armpit,” said Dr Clarke, noting it is not in her son’s nature to complain lightly. He woke his family up one night and “was breathing like Darth Vader” according to the concerned mother.

, she was worried about getting on a plane with the virus, but was unable to get a test. When they got home her son uncharacteristically laid on the sofa as soon as he walked through the door and vomited that night. She phoned 111 and was told they had to go to hospital where Jamie would soon be operated on.
