England has produced one of the greatest innings in Test history, with a Harry Brook triple century seeing the visitors power past Pakistan’s first innings total on day four in Multan.
Joe Root was dismissed for 262 , lbw to Salman Ali Agha, ending the fourth-largest partnership in Test history and the largest for the fourth wicket, of 454 runs. But Brook went on with it, reaching triple figures after lunch, the first triple century for England this century.Root and Brook became the third combination to score 250-plus runs in the same Test innings, and the first since the largest partnership in Test history, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene’s 624 for the third wicket in Sri Lanka’s win over South Africa at Colombo in July 2006.
Earlier Root surpassed Alastair Cook to become England’s highest Test run scorer, moving to fifth on the all-time list behind Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar.
