A planned £12 million entertainment hub, Stack Leisure, set to revitalize Northampton's town center, has faced a one-year delay. Originally slated for completion in 2025, the project is now projected for 2026. Despite the setback, the scheme remains a key development for Northampton, with hopes of replicating the success seen in other locations where Stack Leisure has established similar ventures.
A planned £12 million entertainment hub, anticipated to 'transform' a town center, has encountered a one-year delay. The Stack Leisure venue is slated for development in the former Peacock Place building in Northampton , with a prime location overlooking the Market Square. Originally scheduled to commence construction in October, the project has yet to begin.
Mark Mullen, representing the Northampton Business Improvement District, confirmed the revised timeline, stating that completion is now projected for 2026 instead of the earlier target of 2025. Stack Leisure is set to invest £8 million in the project, supplemented by an additional £4.2 million in support from the Conservative-led West Northamptonshire Council. Mullen attributed the delay to Stack Leisure's success, explaining that they are currently managing a substantial portfolio of projects and expansion opportunities. Each new venture, he noted, has significantly impacted the towns where they've been established. He reassured that the Northampton scheme remains on track for the following year and expressed confidence that it will replicate the positive impact witnessed in other locations. Newcastle-based Stack Leisure submitted plans for a retail, food, and performance center on the former Market Walk site in 2023. The council, reviewing these plans, anticipates the lower ground floor will primarily be dedicated to entertainment ventures, including children's entertainment, fitness events, and live music. The proposed operating hours are from 8:00 am to 2:30 am daily. The company also anticipates creating around 250 jobs. Stack Leisure has a proven track record of successful similar projects in other parts of England, including locations like Lincoln and Seaburn. The Stack development will occupy Market Walk, formerly known as Peacock Place, in the heart of Northampton town center. Situated between the Market Square and Abington Street, it previously served as a small indoor shopping center featuring retailers such as a Next store and a cafe
