Entire town evacuated over fears reservoir dam may collapse flooding homes
AN ENTIRE town is being evacuated today as a reservoir dam under pressure after torrential rain may COLLAPSE flooding homes.
"If you are being evacuated then please start heading to Chapel High School, Long Lane, ChapelEnLeFrith, High Peak, SK23 0TQ, where further direction will be given."They added: "Officers and staff will be at the school to give further direction but at this time we aren't sure how long the evacuation will take. Please make alternate arrangements to stay with friends/family, ensure that pets and medication that may be needed for a number of days are taken.
"We are praying holds whilst the Canal and River Trust try to drain the water from the reservoir. I live at the top of a hill but am very involved in community life, so want to help where I can."It is 16 miles South East of Manchester.The first local government was formed in 1863, but records of the region go back to the 13 th century as it had the name Weyley or Weylegh.
"It's such a shame as so many homes have been destroyed and the poor shop owner at Nisa has already had to refurb his shop due the last incidence of flooding at Bramhall roundabout.Train operator Northern said due to heavy flooding some of the railway lines were blocked and services this morning would have to be revised.Passengers can use their tickets on Transpennine services between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport.
In a statement they said: "We are extremely disappointed to announce that we have had to take the decision to cancel this weekend's Rewind North Festival. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service added: "Please bear with us, crews and police officers are working very hard to get to those in need and the most vulnerable in our communities."
Jess, 20, was caught in the "mammoth" rain which flooded roads to "shin height", according to posts she shared on Twitter.
