The NSW government has confirmed it will delay the closure of the Eraring Power Station on the advice of an official review into the state’s transition into renewable energy.

Cameron O’Reilly from Marsden Jacob Associates conducted the Electricity Supply and Reliability Check Up which made 54 recommendations to keep the Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap on track.

Minister for Energy Penny Sharpe said the government will collaborate with Eraring to manage its future. “But what’s been made clear in Cameron’s report is that the short timeframe that we’ve got means that we can’t just ignore it and pretend nothing’s happening. We have to get ready to make sure that any exit is managed but importantly, any extension is also managed.”

“We accept the recommendations from Cameron and from the indications given by the most recent AEMO report that there are reliability risks with Eraring exiting early. That’s why we’re going to talk to Eraring and talk about what the options are,” she said.
