Man United manager Erik ten Hag could make some bold changes to his strongest starting line-up in the not too distant future.
For the amount of time Anthony Martial spent inside the Carrington treatment room last season, his attacking output was somewhat impressive.
That hamstring complaint forced him to miss the entirety of pre-season, meaning United had to navigate their way through their eight warm-up matches without an out-and-out No.9. He made the substitutes' bench for the season opener against Wolves, and then appeared as a late substitute against Tottenham Hotspur five days later to secure his first minutes since May.
As we all know by now, pressing and high energy levels are vital components in Erik ten Hag's style of play. He likes United to press from the front and Martial, with all due respect, offers far more on that score than fellow attacker Marcus Rashford. The feeling between the duo is mutual. "He wants us to produce good football with a desire to press for the loss of the ball," said Martial, also speaking in November 2022. "It's perfect for me, for my style of play."
Though the England international was United's main man last season, his form has curtailed so far this term, so much so that he has the same number of goals as Martial. The latter, despite his fragility, is better as a No.9 than Rashford, meaning it would make sense for Hojlund to be partnered by the former Sevilla loanee in a front-two.
