Man United made it two wins in two games in the Premier League with another one-goal victory thanks to Victor Lindelof.
Goals are so scarce at Manchester United that the defence has done as much attacking as the attackers. Victor Lindelof is their fourth defender to walk off the pitch the matchwinner this season.
Hojlund can console himself that he has not cost United points against Luton, in exile from the top flight for 31 years. United have also overtaxed the £72million Hojlund, with no dependable support striker to fall back on. And so United's knack for narrow wins continued against possibly the most ill-prepared team in the Premier League era. All seven victories this term have been by a single goal.
Lindelof's inclusion was signposted by Ten Hag on Friday when he rattled through the players adept at occupying the left centre-back position. Varane was conspicuous by his absence. The 'Play like you mean it!!' banner that was first unfurled by the River Thames last week was visible again, this time in the second tier of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. United's players are unlikely to have seen it. Their performance was a notch more enterprising but far from inspiring.
