Manchester United suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, losing 2-0 to Newcastle United. Christian Eriksen acknowledged the team's struggles, stating that errors feel magnified and that they need to regain belief and confidence.
Christian Eriksen said the errors Manchester United are making are feeling 'a lot worse' than they actually are, following Monday night's 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United at Old Trafford. United suffered a fourth successive defeat in their final outing of 2024, conceding first half goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton, with both players heading home from crosses from the left.
The Reds, who huffed and puffed in the second half in the hope of staging an unlikely comeback, have now lost five of their last six Premier League matches, as well as failing to score in each of their last three outings. They will end 2024 14th in the table. Eriksen, who was one of four players drafted into the starting XI after the 2-0 defeat to Wolves on Boxing Day, felt it was a contest decided in moments. Speaking to MUTV, he said: 'I think, in the end, it was a disappointing game. It was a game of moments. 'We started well but then, in the end, conceding after a few minutes, it's always tough at home. There is a feeling at the moment that every mistake we make is feeling a lot worse than it actually is. We have to dig ourselves out of this.' Having lost four games in a row, confidence is likely to be taking a battering within the United camp. 'Whether it is confidence or not, I think it is also, at the same, the belief on the pitch to be able to do what you are good at,' the Dane continued. 'It is a bit in between belief and confidence, I think.' United will start 2025 with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool, who are currently riding high at the top of the Premier League table. 'It is very important ,' Eriksen added. 'We are more or less halfway through the season; there is half a season to go and there are a lot of games with points to play for. 'I am hopeful that we will turn around at some point, look back and think we were in this, but at some point we will be out of it, for sure.
