DAVID MUNDEE Eufaula boys basketball coach Michael Smith had Dy'qwayshon Grubbs for only one season, but said the senior transfer from Barbour County made his mark.
Grubbs, a 6-foot-4 guard, hopes to now make an impact at the college level. He signed Tuesday afternoon to play at Bevill State Community College in Sumiton. This past year, Grubbs earned Dothan Eagle Super 12 honors with the Tigers, averaging 18.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.0 assists a game. He knocked down a Wiregrass-best 92 3-pointers during the season. He helped Class 5A Eufaula finish with a 21-8 record and reach the regional tournament.
Prior to playing at Eufaula, Grubbs played at nearby Barbour County and was a standout for the Class 2A Jaguars. In his junior year, he averaged a Wiregrass-best 24.3 points a game along with 8.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He earned first team all-state from the Alabama Sports Writers Association and also received Dothan Eagle Super 12 honors.
