Residents in north Pueblo were ordered to evacuate Friday afternoon after a grass fire grew to 100 acres in less than an hour, according to county and federal officials.
A grass fire burning on the north side of Pueblo has forced evacuations for residents half a mile north of 1945 Overton Road, the Pueblo Fire Department said on Friday, April 5, 2024. One of two Fort Carson wildfires contained; Air Force Academy fire at 75%The office said approximately 25 homes were asked to evacuate, with residents urged not to wait or delay to collect belongings and to only head north on Overton Road.
A reception center for residents evacuating is set up at the Pueblo County Parks Office at 1650 Cooper Place, according to the sheriff’s office. Residents should enter off of Roselawn Road.Air resources were deployed to help fight the fire as of 1:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said on X.
