Crews responded to a wildland fire in the area of the National Center for Atmospheric Research Lab southwest of Boulder on Friday.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office said the brush fire burning in the area of the 2400 block of South Quail Hollow Road, southeast of Byers, was estimated to be at least 150 acres and is 0% contained.
The fire was estimated to be the size of a football field as of 11:20 a.m., and was initially burning several hundred yards away from homes. At least four residential buildings and three out buildings were involved in the fire as of 1:30 p.m., and the sheriff's office said crews were focusing on structure protection efforts.
The sheriff's office said a three-mile area near County Road 193 and County Road 24 has been evacuated, and the fire is moving toward the southeast. South Metro Fire Rescue said it was sending seven units for mutual aid and structure protection. Firefighters from Sable Altura, Byers, Bennett-Watkins, Strasburg, Deer Trail and Buckley Space Force Base are all on scene. Air support has also been called in.There is one confirmed home burning and more may be involved. Deputies have evacuated a three mile area near County Road 193 and County Road 34. The fire is burning in the southeast direction. No injuries have been reported.
