A look at what Everton-linked Jake O'Brien could potentially bring to Sean Dyche's side
Everton have been linked with a move for Jake O’Brien but what might the Olympique Lyonnais defender bring to their side?
Moving from Crystal Palace last summer, having never played for the Eagles’ senior side but having been loaned out to Swindon Town and Belgian outfit RWD Molenbeek who, like Lyon, are owned by US businessman John Textor who expressed an interest in buying Everton when 777 Partners’ attempts fell through, O’Brien made 32 appearances and scored five goals for the French side, while also going on to play for the Republic of Ireland for the first time.
We can also correlate O’Brien’s statistics from the French top flight last season against players already turning out in his position in the Premier League using Comparisonator’s Virtual Transfer tool. When it comes to some of the main defensive parameters, he seemingly still has a long way to go to match incumbent Blues centre-back pairing James Tarkowski and Branthwaite.
One field where he does produce some impressive numbers though is his threat in the opposition danger areas. O’Brien’s goals per 90 minutes matches the figure of Premier League leaders in his position, Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur, Marcos Senesi of Bournemouth and Jarrell Quansah of Liverpool. When it comes to expected goals , only Newcastle United’s Dan Burn can better his 0.11 with a score of 0.16 while his shots on target average of 0.
