Everton are expected to receive a second points deduction this season in what is a “worst-case scenario” for the club, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Toffees are “clinging” to the hope that double jeopardy will be considered in their second charge.
Everton started the hearing for their second charge on Monday after allegedly breaching regulations again in their 2022-23 financial accounts. The verdict for their second charge is expected next month where Sean Dyche’s side will discover whether or not they face a second points deduction. The Merseyside club have already faced a points deduction for their first breach where they were deemed to have exceeded their allowable losses by £19.5million.Everton were deducted an initial 10 points for the breach which was lowered to six points after a successful appeal.
The Blues are currently 16th in the league table and four points clear of the relegation zone but a second deduction would put them at risk of going down.
