Sean Dyche has been sacked as Everton manager after a disappointing start to the 2024-25 Premier League season. The club, under new ownership, has opted to replace him with a manager who can implement a more attacking style of play.
Dyche’s job has been under threat since last month’s takeover by The Friedkin Group, with the new ownership keen to bring in a bigger-name manager who plays more expansive football.Having finished 15th last season, Everton have won just three league matches in 2024-25, alongside eight draws and eight losses, including just one victory in the past 11 games.
Former Burnley and Watford manager Dyche replaced Frank Lampard in January 2023 and ensured Everton’s narrow survival in that campaign, finishing 17th. The 53-year-old recently said his position “should be” under review despite positive conversations with the new owners. Having navigated two points deductions last season and a club with serious financial issues, Dyche’s job has not been easy but results had slipped beyond an acceptable level. This sacking means six of the bottom eight clubs in the Premier League have changed their manager this season, with just Ipswich and Crystal Palace still holding firm. In a statement, the club said: “Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect.“The process to appoint a new manager is underway and an update will be provided in due course.
