Everton have told Manchester United they will not be able to exploit the collapse of the club’s takeover deal to pick up Jarrad Branthwaite on the cheap. The breakdown in talks between Farhad Moshiri and prospective buyers The Friedkin Group had sparked concern over the state of the club - and speculation it could mark a change in approach to the transfer market.
Two bids, the second for £45m plus £5m in add-ons, have been rejected out of hand by Everton, who deemed the offers as completely unacceptable for their starlet. The Old Trafford club has since moved for another young centre back, Leny Yoro, but was understood to retain an interest in Branthwaite.
