The government has planned a number of cost of living support payments for 2023 - and some will be paid out to some of the poorest people in the country. And there is also a winter fuel payment for pensioners which is aimed at helping them heat their homes and letters will go out in October and November to say how much people will get. Although the eligibility criteria for the autumn 2023 payment have not been announced, it is likely they will be the same as for previous awards. These were paid to people who received on specific dates the following benefits or tax credits:Those entitled to a Winter Fuel Payment for winter 2023 to 2024, you will get an extra £150 or £300 paid with your normal payment from November 2023.
It has not as yet been renewed for this year, but with inflation still very high calls have been made for it to be brought back. The Scottish National Party’s Westminster leader urged the government to bring back the boost which helped households last winter.
