For a long while after Venom's appearance in the end-credit scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021, news on the future of the character on the big screen was sparse.
Tom Hardy As Eddie Brock/Venom Returning Actor Close Naturally, Tom Hardy will be returning to the franchise in Venom 3. Since the release of Venom in 2018, Hardy has played the role of Eddie Brock. Brock was a down-on-his-luck reporter who discovered the Venom symbiote during an investigation into a company called the Life Foundation.
Peggy Lu As Mrs. Chen Returning Actor Close Having appeared in both Venom movies and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, there were expectations that Mrs. Chen would appear in Venom: The Last Dance in some capacity, especially since it's set to close up the film trilogy that first introduced the character. However, few were likely expecting Mrs.
This supports the reports that she will be playing a character known as Dr. Payne - who may be an entirely new character, or may be a loose adaptation of Marvel villain Dr. Paine, who was also an enemy of Venom in the comics and whose obsession with immoral and sadistic medical practices could easily be translated into a movie villain role.
Venom: The Last Dance's trailer shows Ejiofor's character in military garb, featuring him obtaining a leftover piece of Venom symbiote left in a bar. This - when combined with the shots of the character walking through a facility holding symbiotes with Juno Temple, and the reveal that a military-like organization is hunting Venom in the movie - certainly suggests Chiwetel Ejiofor's role may be the leader of that group.
That said, there's also a good chance that the character exists to show the level of threat now posed to Venom, by giving audiences another symbiote-human duo who may be killed off earlier in the movie instead. While this is a less positive outlook, it's one certainly supported by the trailer, which shows an uncomfortable if not in pain Mulligan in a white cell being handled by the same military-looking organization that appear to be hunting down Brock & Venom.
