Fionna and Cake is more mature than Adventure Time, so the series gives older viewers a chance to stay in touch with the show that they grew up watching. Adventure Time was initially released in 2010, so children who watched Cartoon Network at the time are adults now. While Fionna and Cake provides them with more age-appropriate thrills, the other Adventure Time projects will entertain younger audiences too.
The plot details about the movie remain frustratingly vague, with the only information being the tease that it will be Finn and Jake's "greatest adventure yet." It will be tough to top Adventure Time's crowd-pleasing finale, but the animation superteam at the helm give the movie the best chance possible.
While some fans have been calling for a second season of Adventure Time: Distant Lands, the newly-announced spinoff, Side Quests, may be the next best thing. The child-oriented show promises to focus on standalone episodes, rather than long multi-episode arcs that require fans to keep up with lore. Both Adventure Time and Fionna and Cake can be a little daunting for first-time viewers who don't have all the necessary context, so Side Quests may be a little more welcoming.
