Joe Cole discussed Jordan Henderson's place in the England set-up and the negative reaction to his Liverpool exit
Former Liverpool player Joe Cole admits he can see the debate surrounding Jordan Henderson 'from both sides' after the midfielder was named in England's starting line-up against Ukraine.
Addressing the scenario before kick-off on Channel 4's coverage of the game, Cole explained his views on Henderson's role and whether he would have considered the consequences of a Liverpool exit. "I could understand Jordan thinking he would know that it puts Gareth in a difficult position because when you're competing with the players he's competing with in that position - Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, [James] Ward-Prowse, Kalvin Phillips - all playing in the Premier League or Champions League.
"On a moral perspective, I agree with Gareth that footballers and managers get held to account with what's right and what's wrong. At this point presenter Jules Breach stepped in to remind Cole why there was backlash towards the former Liverpool man in particular in the first place.
