Watching this unfold from a few feet away, Spurs point guard Tre Jones figured it was nothing Wembanyama had not heard before from hostile crowds overseas. With one caveat. “It might be the first time in English,” Jones said.
They have not led since the fourth quarter of that Toronto game, which ended in a 126-113 overtime defeat. “We’re the youngest team in the NBA,” guard Doug McDermott said. “Everything is a work in progress. Our offense, our defense, everything.” There is a fine line between a “work in progress” and “a mess.” The Spurs, if they are not careful, could find themselves teetering toward the latter. Their 3-5 record is perhaps not unexpected.
