Here’s what to know about how the Michelin Guide works and what its presence will mean for Texas.

To help bring the Michelin Guide to Texas, the tourism boards of five cities in Texas, along with the state’s tourism agency Travel Texas, came together to form a partnership with Michelin. It has yet to be disclosed how much each group paid, but Visit Florida reportedlyNo, only restaurants in the five Texas cities that joined together in partnership with Michelin are eligible for Michelin consideration.
Two stars — Awarded to restaurants where the food is expertly crafted, refined, inspired and reflective of the personality and talent of the chef. Three stars — Awarded to restaurants with food that is elevated to an art form and superlative cooking from chefs at the peak of their profession.Michelin added this category in 2020 to recognize restaurants at the forefront of sustainable practices. For the Green Star, inspectors consider seasonality of ingredients, environmental footprint, food waste systems and general waste disposal. Any restaurant in the Michelin Guide is eligible for this annual award.
