An anti-immigration protest and counter-protest is taking place on Friday while an anti-racism demostration is planned for Saturday
Further protests are planned to take place in Belfast city centre on Friday evening after a week of public disorder following an anti-immigration protest last weekend.
On an event poster shared, organisers have urged people to "take a stand against racism, facism, and Islamophobia by attending this peaceful counter protest." The transport operator has already announced changes to their Donegall Road Metro bus services, which will divert at 7pm each evening via Grosvenor Road and Westlink until further notice.
"We will have a significant policing operation in place, and are working hard to keep everyone safe, while supporting the right to peaceful protest. The police spokesperson added: "If the protest involves a parade then this must be notified to the Parades Commission. Taking part in a procession that is not notified is a criminal offence and you may be liable to prosecution.
A number of city centre based businesses have also taken to social media to say they will be staying closed on Friday.
