US automakers will have more time to comply with standards and to push sales of hybrid vehicles as demand for EVs slows.

| The Biden administration is giving US automakers more time and production flexibility to comply with tougher vehicle emission standards, and theThe extension is a win for traditional automakers, who had warned President Joe Biden that targets proposed a year ago, were too aggressive. The initial proposal called forAlliance for Automotive Innovation president John Bozzella said in a statement that the new rules were the “most consequential carbon reducing policy for vehicles ever”.

Climate Change Minister Chris Bowen and Transport Minister Catherine King have given the automotive industry time to respond to its policy plans, and declared it will set a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard that “seeks to catch up with the US around 2028”. “It’s significantly different from the unworkable plan the Biden administration originally announced about a year ago,” Mr Bozzella said.
