The 43-year-old returned to former club Chelsea in 2019 to become an academy coach and then took the England U21 assistant role alongside his Blues duties. The former defender earned 107 caps for England, the sixth highest tally Three Lions ever, so has plenty of experience at the top level. The FA have not ruled out the appointment of an overseas coach, with Argentine former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino a potential option.
