The National Crime Agency say the 44-year-old laundered millions for organised crime groups
An ex-Dublin airport cop has been extradited to Northern Ireland to serve a prison sentence for trying to smuggle money through Belfast International Airport .
The Malahide man's extradition follows his release from jail in the Republic of Ireland for similar offences.Adams was convicted of a money laundering offence in Northern Ireland in 2018 following a National Crime Agency investigation when he was stopped by Border Force officers as he was about to board a flight Alicante from Belfast International Airport.
Adams was initially released on bail as part of the NCA investigation but when he failed to return, a European Arrest Warrant was issued for him. NCA then found he had been arrested in the interim by Irish authorities and charged with four counts of money laundering, for which he was sentenced to five years in prison and had began serving his sentence.
NCA Branch Commander David Cunningham said: "Mark Adams was committing his crimes across international borders but by working together with our law enforcement partners we were able to ensure he faced justice in both jurisdictions.
