Queensland's Liberal National Party must make"significant inroads" at the two by-elections if it wants to secure government in October, a former politician has claimed.
Inala and Ipswich West are Labor heartland seats, but some MPs are preparing for the latter to fall into LNP hands despite it being Labor-held by about 14 per cent. "They had to ditch Annastacia Palaszczuk towards the end of last year. Her personal figures as well as that of the party were in the basement, irrecoverable," he said to Sky News Australia host Jaynie Seal, ahead of polls opening at 8am .
Asked about Ms Palaszczuk's seat of Inala, which is being held by 28 per cent, Mr McGauran said Liberals must do more than expect a three to four per cent swing as seen in the Victorian by-election in Dunkley, which was retained by Labor. Opposition Leader David Crisafulli said it will be an"uphill battle to win both by-elections. Pictured with Liberal candidates in Darren Zanow, for Ipswich-West, and Trang Yen for Inala.
