Mark Warner

A former senior GMP police officer accused of strangling his partner told a court she hit him during a row at their home in Whitworth.

"Our communication had really suffered," he said. "Her personality had changed. She had become cold and wasn't behaving in the way she used to. I thought, surely this is a blip and it will resolve itself because we had just made the decision to buy a house together which is a major financial purchase."

The woman went upstairs to her bedroom and Warner said he decided to make a clear demarkation between separate areas of the house. "The relationship was clearly beyond redemption," he said. Warner told the court he realised his partner was using a voice recording app and took the phone from her. But as he walked towards his bedroom he said he felt a hard blow to his head which dislodged his glasses.
