A first look at Blackpool's first cat cafe ahead of its opening next week

A couple who have spent years working toward setting up their own dream business are delighted to finally see it become a reality. Rick Marsh, 32 and Katie Buchanan, 28, met each other when they both managed a local Wetherspoon's pub.

Explaining the couple's decision, Rick said: "Together, we'd had quite a lot of experience in customer relations and the day-to-day activities of running a pub. We're definitely more cat people than dog people and we've been to a couple of cafes and just absolutely loved what they've done." "Obviously through Covid a lot of people decided to take on some pets. There were a lot of dogs, cats that were getting taken on who after Covid, as bad as it sounds, were just dumped.

Cafe Meow is now a week away from its grand opening and after years of overcoming several obstacles and complications, Rick says he and Katie are looking forward finally to seeing the cafe open. The couple, who have now ditched their day jobs to concentrate on the cat cafe full time, say one of the main things that has kept them going throughout the process of establishing the venture has been the response from the community.
