The Met Office has issued a string of weather warnings this week

Parts of Scotland could be facing even more snow and ice before the end of the week, the Met Office has predicted.

Currently, the weather alert is in place until 9pm on Friday, December 16, with temperatures expecting to get milder over the weekend. Regarding the alert, the Met Office said: "Outbreaks of sleet and snow will spread across much of southern, central and western Scotland through Friday. There remains some uncertainty in which areas will be worst affected, but a few places seem likely to see snow persist through the morning, perhaps even lasting into the afternoon, before increasingly turning to rain at low levels later.

However, after Friday, temperatures are likely to start climbing again across some areas in Scotland which could put an end to the Arctic blast.Edinburgh will still be under the weather warning until Friday night, but milder weather will start to appear the following day. Rain and snow over the weekend, snow becoming confined to higher ground, but there could be significant snowfall and drifting for a time on Sunday. Rain or showers on Monday. On Friday, outbreaks of snow with moderate falls are possible, particularly in the west. It should turn to rain or sleet at lower levels later in the day. Maximum temperature 3 °C.
