The RAC has warned that increasingly bright car headlights are 'blinding' other road users and posing a danger. An RAC survey found that 89% of drivers believe certain car headlights are excessively bright, with 91% of those experiencing dazzling while driving saying it happens frequently. Over two-thirds (67%) have had to decelerate substantially to regain their vision, and 64% believe the glare presents a risk of accidents.

The survey found that of those who raised issues with the bright lights, an overwhelming majority of 91% have experienced being dazzled while driving. About three-quarters say this happens frequently. One forum user wrote: "Car lights have become far too bright and are damn dangerous. For the first time for a few years I had to drive long distance at night, mainly on the motorway. My eyes are good for long distance so I don't wear glasses.
