There’s nothing like an enforced period of down-time to get the nation in the mood for a new look. For the non-key workers among us, boredom set in long ago . As such, we’ve turned our attention to an exciting new hue, one with enough oomph to pep up our lockdown summer: red. “Red is the forgotten colour of every season,” says colourist
, who has witnessed a surge in demand for shades of red from his clients, both during Zoom consultations since the outbreak, and in the salon before lockdown began.
This trend isn’t about one specific shade of red, either, which is fortunate as different hues work for different skin tones. “There is a redhead in everybody, as long as you work around whether you are a cool red or a warm red,” advises Wood. Red is generally thought of as a warm hue, but actually cool reds exist, too. Cool tones are those with blue, purple and violet bases, while warm tones are red, orange and yellow based.
To that end, Wood has added four new hues to his bestselling gloss line, which will drop in July and offer a “palette” of reds for customers to choose from. Ranging from copper gold and cherry to rose or berry brunette, they offer all the nourishment, hydration and shine of existing glosses in the line, thanks to ingredients like perilla oil and shea butter.
