A mum-to-be has been urged to 'please reconsider' the 'terrible' name she's chosen for her baby boy, with some demanding she change her mind, stop 'being selfish' and 'think about her kid'
A soon-to-be mum has been warned to think twice about the name she picked for her baby boy, amid worries it could affect him negatively later in life. Discussing baby names before the little one arrives can be risky - it opens the floodgates for people to give their unfiltered opinions because the name is not officially in use. A case in point is a mum who bravely shared her chosen name for her son with the world.
Occasionally, some group members will pop in to confirm their preferred name isn't going to make their child an easy target for teasing or taunts. This was seemingly on the mind of one expectant mother when she posted: "I feel like some would say my son’s name belongs here, we’re naming him Rayleigh." Her post quickly gained traction as Facebook users piled into the comments section to voice their views – and they didn't sugarcoat.
A user named Skylar chimed in with: "Please don’t, also that name sounds female. Edit: My name sounds feminine too, but you are falling to know a psychological phenomenon - this has happened with other names in the past. In a bid to be 'different', you are actually doing something extremely common and cliché and it's not even easy to spell, he's gonna spend his whole life correcting people thousands of times because his name has a stupid spelling.
Another user joked: "Naming? So there's still hope?" while another added: "This group is about you, not for you. Please leave before your feelings get hurt." One person said: "The name is bad, for a boy it’s just cruel. Quit being selfish and think about your kid." Another quipped: "That name is Rayleigh bad. Especially for a boy.
Offering gentle guidance, another group member said: "In the kindest way I can say this, it's not great. I'm not a parent but my observational skills in that regard are good. You have to remember that you're naming your son who is only going to be a baby for a small percentage of his life."
