The reality of living in such luxurious properties is not as idyllic as it seems
Many Omaze house winners are choosing not to live in the extravagant properties they win and are instead are selling them within weeks. Omaze, known for fundraising for charities through grand prize draws, gives participants the chance to own luxury houses worth millions for a small entry fee.
The financial adjustment that winners have to tackle can be significant, as David clarifies: "If you are used to living in a normal home where you pay a couple of hundred pounds a month in electricity, maybe a few thousand a year in council tax it comes as a huge shock when they receive the first bill for £20,000 or £30,000. It is completely unsustainable and at that point a lot of people will decide it's not for them.", reports Wales Online.
June Smith, a widowed grandmother of six, reportedly visited the £4.5m waterside mansion she won in Cornwall just once before deciding to put it up for sale. She entered the competition with a mere £25 and received the home mortgage-free, with stamp duty and legal fees covered. Marilyn Pratt, the lucky winner of a £2.9 million house in Fulham through a competition, chose to sell the property eight months later for a sum slightly less than its winning value - at £2.8 million. She and her husband David decided to stay put in their cosy two-bedroom home in south-east London where they have spent the past 40 years.
