The earthquake the East Rand region experienced on Sunday was felt quite strongly due to the shallowness of it, while the size is unusual for that region.

At 02:38 on Sunday for about 10 to 20 seconds parts of Gauteng shook due to a moderate earthquake that measured 4.4 on the local magnitude scale.
