Brazil has some of the most important forests on Earth - and they're being destroyed 🌲
Extinction Rebellion activists have blockaded the Brazilian embassy in London and doused it in red paint in a mass protest over the rights of indigenous people.
Police arrested six activists from the group after they glued themselves to the embassy windows and climbed onto a glass awning above the entrance. Sian Vaughan, 54, a retired primary school headteacher from Pembrokeshire, who took part in the action in London, said: ‘We need everyone to know what’s going on in Brazil, and to tell the UK Government to act.‘If we close our eyes to the criminal destruction taking place, our children will pay the price. The climate crisis is global.’
Similar protests, designed to challenge the Brazilian government over ‘state-sanctioned human rights abuses and ecocide’, took place at Brazilian embassies in Chile, Portugal, France, Switzerland and Spain.
