The blue plaques had disappeared hours later
Two blue plaques shaming Northampton MPs for allowing sewage to be dumped in rivers were erected on a bridge in the town on Saturday morning. But they appeared to have been taken down just hours later.
Speakers at the event said they were "just normal people and we just want to get on with our lives." They added "we know that direct action is annoying" and that "unveiling embarrassing blue plaques probably won't work". The plaques were to "call out" the Northamptonshire MPs who blocked an amendment to stop companies dumping sewage in rivers in late 2021. Six of Northants' seven MPs, Andrew Lewer, Philip Hollobone , Andrea Leadsom , Peter Bone , Tom Pursglove and Michael Ellis voted against the amendment, while Chris Heaton-Harris did not attend the debate.
