Extra trains will be running in the south east to help people get home from New Year's Eve celebrations. Train operators South Western Railway, Govia Thameslink Railway and Southeastern are all running amended timetables over the festive period but additional services are operating in the early hours of 1 January. Due to engineering works, not all lines will be open so passengers are urged to check their journey before using the trains.
South Western Railway: The train operator will be running services leaving London Waterloo until 04:45 GMT. The trains will be running to Woking, Guildford, Kingston and Twickenham, serving intermediate stations. However, some trains will only stop at stations to drop passengers off and not pick any up. Govia Thameslink Railway: A regular Saturday service will run on New Year's Eve supplemented by some overnight services on the route between Bedford and Three Bridges. London Blackfriars station will be closed between 22:30 GMT and 02:15 for the 'safety of crowds'. The first service back to Sussex will be the 02:40 to Three Bridges. Southeastern: There will be additional services from London Charing Cross, London Bridge and London Victoria, but London Waterloo East will be closed from 23:30 GMT. Services will be running to Ramsgate, Ashford, Hastings, Maidstone, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Dartford and Orpington. The last services will have left London Terminals by 03:00. No services will be arriving into London after approximately 00:45. Passengers are being warned that trains will be busy and queuing systems might be in place at some stations
