An extraordinary meeting has been called tonight as Shrewsbury Town Council decides whether to launch a legal challenge over the controversial decision to green light a large care village.

The council will meet to discuss the scheme for 182 units of care accommodation and 75-bed nursing home at Hencote estate off Ellesmere Road.

It said councillors and Shrewsbury residents were"shocked" to hear that Shropshire Council was to offer no evidence at the January planning inquiry into the appeal against the refusal of planning permission, which only became apparent towards the end of last week, giving"no time for objectors to consider this new information".
