Comber councillor says there is 'another option' to tackle issue involving local community group
Concerns over an "eyesore" hoarding in a prize winning Co Down town have been raised again after Storm Éowyn "made things worse".
Earlier this month all of the councillors representing Comber in Ards and North Down Borough Council came together at committee with a cross-party proposal to explore “all options” to remove the private hoarding amidst widespread censure from locals. “Considering this, Officers should do a report exploring all further options available to resolve this issue with some urgency.”
At the council meeting on Wednesday, UUP Alderman Philip Smith successfully proposed returning the original motion back to committee level “for further discussion and a more substantial proposal”. “At the moment the notice of motion basically says that we would as a council bring back a report. Officers are doing their best to resolve this situation, I get that and respect that, but we are facing challenges around issues of ownership of the land, and the liability of the owner with regard to any potential work that we do.
Alliance Councillor Patricia Morgan said at the meeting: “I am happy to second this motion, because as I have made absolutely and abundantly clear, getting this hoarding sorted out just has to be done. It is completely unacceptable.
