Facebook slammed for 'sleazy trick' after being caught asking for passwords to your email accounts 😲

Facebook slammed for ‘sleazy trick’ after being caught asking for passwords to your email accountsBy Harry Pettit, Senior Digital Technology and Science ReporterFACEBOOK has come under fire for demanding that people hand over the passwords to their personal email accounts.

It's another example of Facebook's lacklustre attitude to user privacy, and the tech titan has now promised to stop the practice in the wake of huge backlash.New users that appear suspicious to Facebook are asked for their email password so the site can verify the address. Your email account holds every undeleted message you've ever sent, and is the gateway to things like your social media profiles.

"No company should ever be asking people for credentials like this, and you shouldn’t trust anyone that does."A Facebook spokesman said the prompt was only seen by a small number of users."A very small group of people have the option of entering their email password to verify their account when they sign up for Facebook for the first time. These passwords are not stored by Facebook," the spokesman said.
