These colleagues were featured in the Liverpool Echo Diary page in 1971

Known locally as the Giro, the landmark Bootle building on Bridle Road is being demolished after plans to redevelop the site were abandoned.

Unearthed by our archives, Mirrorpix, a Liverpool ECHO Diary page from November 1971 features a handful of Giro employees following news that the organisation was to stay in business. In the feature, six employees share how they got into the business, as well as their lives in the Giro social clubs and their hobbies outside of work.

Coming to Giro two years prior after working as a driver for Costigan's, the grocers, for over forty years, Mr Lawrence was also a member of the Litherland Council and president of Hornby Old Aged Pensioners Club in the area - a post he held from 1958. His wife, Edith, also worked at the centre as a clerical assistant.

Constance Lamb Another member of staff photographed for the Liverpool Echo Diary page was Miss Constance Lamb who lived in Rufford, near Ormskirk. Before working with the machine operators in Giro's data conversion branch, Miss Lamb was a staff sergeant with the Women's Royal Army Corps in Chester. Harry Boyle In November 1971, Harry Boyle was a clerical officer in the Standing Order Section at the Giro headquarters in Bootle. But according to a feature in the ECHO, he was also known as the Giro's "Mr Football."

Beryl Brown Back in 1971, mum-of-four Beryl Brown was a Senior Machine Operator in the recruitment and training branch at the Giro headquarters. She was also secretary of the Civil and Public Servant's Association.
